A conversation with their parents inspired two young people to help put school supplies into more students’ hands.
HOW IT BEGAN
In 2023, Avyukth Salver and Mohammed Mansuri were together when their parents shared memories of their own school days—including what it was like to make a single pencil last the whole year.
That conversation changed how Avyukth and Mohammed thought about the supplies they used every day. A pencil or a notebook could seem ordinary, but having one when you needed it could make a real difference.
They founded Crayons for Change that year with a simple purpose: help under-resourced students get the tools they need to learn and create. What began with listening became a youth-led effort to turn care into action.
Today, that purpose connects our school supply projects and community events. With 6,000+ school supplies distributed and work reaching 3 countries, we’re continuing the story one student, one supply, and one shared effort at a time.
THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE PURPOSE

Avyukth co-founded Crayons for Change with Mohammed Mansuri in 2023. The conversation with their parents helped him see everyday school supplies in a new light and inspired him to help students who lack those essentials.
As president and co-founder, he helps lead the youth-led effort to turn that inspiration into support for students.
Mohammed co-founded Crayons for Change with Avyukth Salver in 2023. Hearing their parents’ school-day stories became a starting point for thinking about how young people could help other students.
As vice president and co-founder, he helps advance their shared mission: give more students access to the supplies that support learning and creativity.
Abhi coordinates marketing and manages the Crayons for Change website, helping share the organization’s story, projects, and ways to support its mission.
His role connects the work happening in our communities with the people who want to learn about it and get involved.
